  • [help!] missing flip button?

Hey everyone, new to Spine - this may be a stupid question but where is the flip button?? Incredibly frustrating that I can't seem to find it. Sorry if this is not the correct place to post this type of question.

I've attached two photos - what I see when I select a bone (no flip option), and what I saw from a tutorial (with flip option)

Appreciate the help!

Sorry for the confusion. Flipping has been removed in the 3.x line of Spine. Instead, you can use negative scale, which also works with/without inheritance.

Could you link to the tutorial you used?

Thanks!! I thought I was going crazy. Here's the link -

Spine User Guide - Key Frames (2/2) - YouTube (3:03 - flip section)

Follow up question -

I'm trying to create a simple 8 frame 2d run animation where half of the keys are replicated and flipped. I want to be able to key frames 1-4 (right arm and right leg moving), replicate the frames, then flip them so that the left arm and left leg movement keys are quickly modeled in frames 5-8.

When I try this, the playback animation is funky... the animation seems to be jagged on the key frame that I flipped (using negative scale approach). For example, the right leg is coming down and the left leg should be coming up (this is the key I flipped). Instead of a smooth transition to the left leg, the right leg comes back up again as if the animation is playing backwards then immediately skips to the left leg already up (as if it were stepped animation). I have a feeling this has something to do with the flipped key. Am I approaching this incorrectly??

Thanks!

Please capture a gif or upload a video to YouTube showing the problem. I'm not sure what the problem is without seeing an example of it.

Hello.

I never knew the flip button, but I'm interested to know why it was removed.

The only problem today, having a -1.0 on a bone X axis, is when scaling, it does'nt keep the ratio anymore (which is a
shame by the way).

The flip button was a bi-product of the old scaling we had where you could not just scale -1.0 on the X-axis to flip your skeleton.

What do you mean by ratio, can you provide a screenshot?

I tried that and Crocodilium is right, if an image is flipped and you try to scale it by clicking from the center of the image the scale isn't uniform but very squash-and-stretchy. On the contrary, when you scale and the image isn't flipped the scale is uniform.

@crocodilium @erikari
I'm not sure what you mean.

Can you show gifs?

Sure:

It seemed clear to me what Crocodilium meant though, what could possibly be other cases?

Haha thanks a lot, I was starting to do some screenshots.

what on earth :o

Erikari, can you share that project here, please?
What version of Spine are you running?

Hmm, I know this 'bug' since several versions. My colleagues right here tell me that they know this for a year at least.
On multiple Spine version, PC or MAC, any project.

Doesn't make sense to me either.
What are the steps to repro this? I can't seem to get it to do that.

I simply used the Spineboy project in the spine folder, and yeah that was around since forever ahah, but I actually just type manually the size if needed.
I'm running the latest stable version on windows 10.

Do you want me to send to you your default project or is it ok if I don't? Happens on any project anyway.

Repro steps:

  1. type in -1 on one of the two scale fields of a bone
  2. in scale mode, click the center of the bone origin to start resizing (teoretically in a uniform way)

Wait, clicking the center of the bone does something special?
I'm not seeing any indication that it should.

I'm also not seeing the results.

Oh, looks like it's a problem in 3.5. Not in 3.6. :p

was fixed in 3.6.10
Spine: Changelog: v3.6.10 beta

But are you on windows 10 with Spine 3.5.51 as well?
Amazing, now I understand why you didn't get it...

Yeah, in the gif you're doing it right, I wonder why it's different for you but not for us...?

What can I do to help you?

(also yay, 300th post! )

It was one of those ninja Nate fixes. You know how it is.

The mystery has been solved!

Also, clicking in the center is the same as clicking outside the handles 🙂

Yay! Great Nate! 😃
can't wait to try v3.6 by the way (I'm bound to use stable releases for now)
