    MJamesShort wrote

    Greetings!

We're working on the alpha of our new game (consoles/pc) and have decided to use Spine as our animation system. Neither the artist or myself (designer/programmer) have used Spine before and we're struggling to understand how best to get the artists art represented accurately in Spine.

I'm looking to contract an expert Spine animator to do the following:

    • Help us figure out the best way to slice and export the artists art for rigging in Spine

    • Help us understand skins in Spine

    • Rig five characters in Spine

    • Complete the following seven animations for each rigged character

    ** Idle

    ** Attack

    ** Hit

    ** Preparing to attack

    ** Casting a buff

    ** Receiving a buff

    ** Dying

Looking for expert Spine animators with a good portfolio that have preferably worked on a shipped product.

  • Hi Matt,
Thanks so much for your help! We're open to doing smaller scale projects and if they like our work, they can scale things up from there. Also thanks, we pride ourselves on good communication. Stephen is born and raised in the US. I moved over there when I was 5, but English is definitely my best language now. Stephen was actually an English major so I hope his English is particularly good haha.

I'm totally based out of Thailand now though. Let me know if you ever plan to visit Thailand. I'd be happy to give you tips for your trip, and if you come to Chiang Mai we can grab a good meal together. We'll feast like kings! :9

    Have a good one!

  • Hey Emjay, I just sent you a PM.
I have a lot of experience working with a similar process converting traditional animations done in Toon Boom to Spine. Stepped animations and everything! (That's a must! It's a tragedy when nice skeletal animations are over-tweened!)

Thanks for sharing this opportunity! Good looking out!

  • Hi EmJay!

My name is Richmond and I run a Game Dev and outsourcing studio called Bit Egg. We specialize in the exact kind of work you're describing. Like, right down to converting traditional animations from Toon Boom to Spine! And yes, with stepped frames and everything! This is something we have a lot of experience in.

We decided to specialize in Spine years ago and now we've grown to a team of 12+ artists capable of making game ready spine rigs and animations. Our clients are typically established game companies with well loved original IPs. We work hard to uphold their exacting in-house style allowing our clients to scale up production without sacrificing quality. We've done a ton of interesting work for awesome studios like Lab Zero (Skull Girls, Indivisible) who had this to say about our work:

"Richmond and the team at BitEgg have been instrumental in helping our team create high-quality assets and animations that we can rely on. The quality of their work and the speed at which they deliver has been exceptional and we are looking forward to continuing to work with them on the development of our project."

Our work is some of the best in the industry, our rates are competitive and we pride ourselves on clear and timely communication.

Subject: Spine Animator Needed [Harmony to Spine]

    Emjay wrote

    Hello, fellow Spine-imators!

I've recently secured full time work, so I'm helping one of my part time clients find a suitable replacement animator to take over.

    The client is Relish Interactive.

I've worked with them for the past two years, so I know they could offer a consistent stream of good work, and they're a pleasant bunch to work with.

For my recommendation, I'm looking for someone who is a clear communicator with an eye for detail. Much of the current work involves carefully converting Toon Boom Harmony rigs to Spine, then replicating the reference cartoon's animation style in Spine. Here is one example of a property like that, which you would be working on.

I'll be creating documentation to walk the new animator through my process for moving from Harmony to Spine, so the most important factor is that you be able to analyze the source material and recreate its animation style well with Spine.

In particular, this involves limiting the frame rate and using stepped keys to avoid interpolation, so the end result plays back more like frame-by-frame animation.

Relish will have plenty of other work which don't require this pseudo-frame-based animation style, but the main projects you would be working with to start both rely heavily upon it, so it's important that I find someone who would feel comfortable working that way.

If you're interested, please share your reel here or via PM and I'll pass the most well-suited candidates along to Relish with my recommendation. Thanks, everyone!

  • I just sent you a PM. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
    Have a good day!

    Hi there,
we are a very small indie game studio and currently working on our first interactive childrens book / indie game.
as we are just beginners in spine we can do most of rigging and animations by ourselves, but our main character, elo, is a little bit too tricky for us. so we are searching for an spine animator who has a very good knowledge how to rig an 8 directional character set up for walkcycling, mouth movements and body expressions. in the first place we need the 8-axes rig. maybe we can collect some money later this year at a kickstarter campaign for further animations and need. but for start it would help us a lot to have a veteran in spine rigging.
    looking to hear from you.
pleas pm with pricing and some good examples of character rigs/movements.

EDIT: of course we have some money for this initial job. (8-achsis). with the kickstarter campaign we are hoping to gather some more to make further cooworking possible.
