Transparency keyframes?

Can we already, or are there plans to be able to animate alpha transparency for attached images?

You can already do it.

Select the slot where the image is placed on.
In the properties pane below the tree click the color button that has a key next to it.
Change the alpha and close the color window.
The key next to the button will now be orange. Click that to key the change.
