Ah. yeah. The export crop problem is a real bummer right now. It gives me problems when I need to share my unfinished stuff with our art lead.
One thing I did was make a temporary big white box though for a background. Sometimes it doesn't work, but it works most of the time. I'm still not sure what the logic is behind the really small crop.
