Apologies if this is a simple question. I'm new to animation.
I definitely want to use 2D for my game, but I would like to do a top-down game, rather than a side-scroller. I realize that for this I'll need to have animations to handle the various directions that my characters could travel (e.g. left/right, up, down). (Think Zelda or Final Fantasy).
It seems like the left/right animation can be a mirror of each other, but the up/down will need to be separate animations, at least for humanoid characters.
How would I go about doing this with Spine? Would I have to create 3 different character animations and then swap them out when the user switches direction?
It'd be cool if I could manage this all in one Spine project, but this seems like a specialized behavior for a pseudo 3D application.
Any advice is appreciated.

You can have multiple skeletons in the same project in Spine, and then switch between them at runtime. Thats one way to do it. Also take a look at http://software-workshop.eu/content/cre ... sing-spine might be something you can use from that.
